Dealers occasionally botch contract

Dear Terry,
I recently bought a car from Honda. Two days later, they called and said they put the wrong VIN in the contract. Now, I have to go back and do the paperwork all over again. They offered me a full tank of gas. Does this happen a lot?

Dear John,
It doesn't happen often, but whenever fallible people are involved in writing down numbers, there's always a chance of error.

At least the dealer offered to give you a tankful of gas as compensation.
